Big changes

From "Faith and Fresh Perspectives: Reflecting on where we started and where we’re headed"

Go to the project

There have been some big changes in my life since September - kid #1 flew more than half way around the world for an internship opportunity and has yet to come home, kid #2 landed his dream job and will fly from the nest probably permanently in mid-June, a significant relationship ended, my rainy day savings were wiped out by ice-storm clean up, etc. But despite this emotional roller coaster of life, I woke up each day, took a deep breath and was grateful that I could face another day. I recognized that while it could always be better, it could also always be worse! And without struggles along the way, we might stop appreciating when life is giving us lemonade. As for the summer, well, there are a lot of good books on the shelf just calling my name!

Thank you for sharing some of the challenges you have been going through and the mindset (which is quite powerful to have) that keeps you moving forward. Our minds are so powerful when it comes to our wellbeing. I hope that you enjoy some great books this summer.
Way to go @Donna Lorenz , keep your chin up and eyes looking forward into the future.! It is hard as parents, knowing our kids need to spread their wings the way we once did, but you gave them solid decision making skills and a way for them to find their dream job! I would say you did a pretty darn good job, if they are both living out their dreams! Now, you get to do what you dream of, and if that is a summer's worth of good books, then that is worth it too!

Donna, it's been a big series of ups and downs for you over this first half of 2025, hasn't it?!? Right when we think things are humming along nicely, life throws us a curveball (i.e., ice storm!), and everything gets turned upside-down. It's disorienting, frustrating, challenging and exhausting, for sure ... and it takes a while to recover and reorient things. I know you have (as you should!) such pride in your kids' amazing accomplishments, and the careers they are carving out for themselves. They have watched you navigate all of this with good humour, ingenuity, and patience, and they know that they'll be able to face the ocean swells of life with that same resilience, fortitude, and strength. Especially in such a rapidly changing world, those are invaluable tools to bequeath to them!
